Default Does having a perfect mod really make THAT much difference?

I have no idea if this has been discussed before or even if i have calculated any of this correctly, but does having a perfect weapon in particular a sword really matter?

a perfect sword mod is considered to be the all powerful 15^50 (+15% damage while health is above 50%) mod.

but does this really make any difference at all to an almost perfect mod of 14^50 (+14% damage while health is above 50%) mod?

i did some calculations to figure this out, based on a 15-22 damage sword that has been customized i worked out the damage of both a 15^50 and a 14^50. here is what i got.
----------------------------------
15-22
+15% While Health is above 50%
+20% (customized)

20.70 - 30.360
Round up/down
21-30
----------------------------------
15-22
+14% While Health is above 50%
+20% (customized)

20.52 - 30.096
Round up/down
21-30
----------------------------------

if i am correct that means that the weapons are capaple of exactly the same damage, and if there were any difference taken into account you would have to be fighting for a very long time to even have a second of difference in the average time taken to kill something.

So i call upon someone who has perhaps a deeper knowledge on the exact game mechanics to either back me up or show me the err of my calculations.

From this question being answered i hope to determine if paying hundreds of platinum extra for a 15^50 over a 14^50 is just for the "wow" factor of having a perfect sword or if, in fact, it is actually better my even a margin.

I would like to point out i have a 14^50 spatha that seems nice enough but i don't want to spend more on modding it in case it does indeed fall just short of the mark in fact that is the whole point of asking this question in the first place.

some people dont realize that you can get perfect 15% dmg mods either over 50, in stance, or while enchanted for less than 2k and u can mod them yourself...... and have a 100k sword, axe, hammer, bow... for about 1/3 of that price

first of all, that damage will shift depending on armor and skill level.
but, even still, the differences are obviously small as far as absolute numbers go.

the reason that the price difference is so large is that there are people w/a lot of liquidity and 15^50 is the cap fig.
if you've got the money, why not pay a premium for the best?

if ur a super fanatic then yes it matters, but honestly, the diffrence in damage output does not justify the diffrence in cost unless you have gold and nothing to spend it on.

I did a test of 2 sords with the same mods but only diffrence was damage and requirment. a max dmg od 14-21 and 15-22. Well the only diff was that the 14-21 had a 10 req. and the 15-22 was at 11 in sword. It was a consistant 1 point in damage diffrence. do you pay 100k extra for the perfect sword?

People said that in 50 hits that would deal 50 more damage, I say if you need to hit 50 times that guy is being healed and will make no diffrence.

People alos say to use collector items as they are cheap and perfect. I say they are perfect BUT not in ways I might want for me. I like being able to custimize my mods.

The damage output will also vary greatly depending on the armor class of the foe u target and or spells they have on them. I say 1 point is no big deal as I have used weapons 1 point off of perfect and had still killed more and lasted longer than others with perfect weapons. Every battle situation will be diffrent.

Also people here will tell you that dealing 1 point makes a diffence cause apparently TONS of battles decide victory over 1 HP left. This is ummmmmm, BS. People who win with one HP left would post it it the screenshot area and to date I have seen 1 and people were replying like "OMG! You must have been sweating like mad!" or "your very lucky."

If you have the Gold do it, also remeber to do what YOU like. its your game after all.

This is a fact most people who make the "perfect golds aren't worth it" argument don't know. With collector's items in the Desert and Shiverpeaks, you can pick up a max damage weapon pretty cheap. Failing that, you could also have the weapon crafter in Droknar's make weapons too.

The only reason people pay more for golds is for looks, not stats.

i hear all that lol. Personally i don't want to have to spend tonnes, but have decent enough stats to compare with PvP weapons since i play PvE and PvP in equal measure, however i do like looks also so i guess i'll have to get lucky and drop that one item that will bankroll my entire characters equipment for me lol.

If anyone has a perfect weapon they would like to donate out of the goodness of their hearts it would be appreciated

luckily my favorite weapon looks don't seem to be the same as everyone elses. my personal preference isn't for fellblades and chaos axes, i like those handaxe things and wingblades or flamberges...

bah, perfect weapons like that are easy to pick up if you don't care about the skin. Ask almost any Southern Shiverpeaks or Crystal Dessert collector, and you too can get a perfect weapon of your choice for the low low price of 5 X.

trouble is i do care about the skin at least a little, so long as it doesn't look like a short sword then i probably don't mind.. only trouble is i believe all the skins from collectors crafters etc are short swords.. or that stupid black one that looks like it was made out of two bits of black painted wood tied up with string...

So pay a few plat for a high req, so-so damage modifier.

Just think of it this way, a customised weapon is better than any non-customised 15>50.

If you just hunt a lot then you will eventually get a lot of the weapons that you have with good stats and an appealing skin. Sometimes the skin is not just for looks but for popularity sake too. So someone can say I have <fill in here>blade.

I just got a longsword that is +15% while enchanted and +20% enchant duration. I think it looks really cool like something out of King Arthur or Conan. In fact I think it's the exact longsord Lina has in presearing when you get your res signet. It may not be worth much in the trader arena because it's just a common longsword skin, but I think it looks good on the monk and the warrior.

It's true that you can get max stat items for really cheap from collectors but some things do look like hell. When I first got the game and was leveling my ranger I still remember thinking, "God I hope this isn't the way every bow looks... like two pieces of wood trim strapped together at each end"

Mistress Yichi and Savio have the best advice in the thread I think. Get the gold weapon and just mod it yourself.

PS: One sucky thing about collector items is that you can't salvage the mods back out of them. So if you get a good gold weapon drop you will have to get the mods for it and the collector item is just a loss at that point.

actually, a lot of people like longswords (that includes me, although i use axes)

perfect and near perfect really arent that different. my axe cost me 5k and i do more damage with 13% mod than some guy with a "godly" axe. GW really is more about skills than items, so doing 2 less damage per hit really wont matter (unless ur in pre-searing )

Personnally I'd rather have a 13% or 14% damage bonus and customise it myself than pay big money for a 15% bonus. 1. It's cheap enough to be no great loss that it can't be sold on and 2) the difference in damage between 14 & 15% is negligable - only 1 extra point of damage per 100, so seeing as most damage output is 30-50 we're talklking .3 to .5 points of damage lost - hardly worth worrying about imo.

I admit I like particular skins for my own viewing and favor the looks of ivory and dead boiws for my ranger and flamberge/falchion for my warrior and really dislike the flashy chaos axe and storm bow looks now.
